Monday 9/11/2008: Python (GAK) and Risso (OC) win P.O.W. award
Georgia's second baseman Monty Python had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Python helped his team with an average of .522 and 6 RBI in 23 at bats. Python has hit 6 taters this year while batting .314. He adds 20 doubles, along with 62 runs scored. He's 2nd in the Eastern Conference in batting! Orange County's pitcher Anthony Risso had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Western Conference Player of the Week. Risso was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.20. Along the way he struck out 12 in 15 innings. In 32 starts this year Anthony struck out 193 batters in 231.2 innings of work. The Eastern Conference Player of the Week award goes to Birdy Cephon Altera, one of Georgia's best starting pitchers. Birdy went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00, while fanning 19 in 18 innings of work. He pitched two shutouts! The Western Conference's best player of the week was Longmont's Joe Simpson, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Simpson was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.88. Along the way he struck out 13 in 14.1 innings. This season Simpson compiled an ERA of 3.04, going 11-8 in 24 starts. Sunday 9/3/2008: Birdy Cephon Altera fires 1-hitter against New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS - Georgia's southpaw Birdy Cephon Altera didn't look unexperienced at all. The 18 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against New Orleans, recording his 2nd shutout of the season. Cephon Altera (13-6) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 5, throwing 122 pitches. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' Ryan Dobey provided Georgia with the offense Cephon Altera needed as he stroked 1 hit in 4 AB. The final score of the game was 3-0.
 
Friday 9/1/2008: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Birdy Cephon Altera pitched like a legend in August, and the Eastern Conference named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. He went 3-0 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 1.58. He struck out 37 in 40 innings. Birdy also fired a shutout. His ERA of 2.68 helped him to a 12-6 record this year. Friday 9/1/2008: Blundell (NYT) and Molholt (LSW) win monthly award
It's the 2nd time that the Eastern Conference Batter of the Month award goes to New York's second baseman Rick Blundell. Rick went 43 for 102 (.422), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 18 RBI. He has hit 8 taters while batting .348 this season. His 169 hits and 57 walks add up to a .415 on-base percentage. He's 1st in the Eastern Conference in batting, 8th in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! Tuesday 8/29/2008: Birdy Cephon Altera pitches 1-hit shutout against Longmont
GEORGIA - It was a great day for Georgia's left-hander Birdy Cephon Altera. The 18-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 1-hitter, against Longmont on Tuesday. Cephon Altera (12-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 8. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' Georgia's leftfielder Joel Jellison stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, and collecting 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Cephon Altera. Georgia improved its record to 67-63, scoring 7 runs on 14 hits.
 
Monday 8/28/2008: Orange County's Gomes wins Player of the Week award
Ryan Dobey from Georgia wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Eastern Conference. He hit .450 with 9 RBI and slugged .900 in 20 at bats. The Western Conference's best player of the week was Orange County's Lefty Gomes, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Lefty went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.88, while fanning 19 in 14.1 innings of work. In 28 starts this year Lefty struck out 179 batters in 196.2 innings of work. His ERA is 2.79, his record 12-9. Rick Blundell wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. Eastern Conference pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Orange County's centerfielder Sally Shepard had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Western Conference Player of the Week. Sally pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .545 with 2 HR and 4 RBI while slugging .818.
 
Monday 8/7/2008: Boston's David wins Player of the Week award
The Eastern Conference Player of the Week award goes to Ziva David, one of Boston's best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.04 while going 2-0. It's the 3rd time that the Western Conference Player of the Week award goes to Longmont's first baseman Mike Molholt. In 22 at bats he hit .455 with 3 HR and 10 RBI.
 
Tuesday 8/1/2008: New Orleans' Rios out for the season
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans' ace Miguel Rios experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 6th inning of the game against Seattle, Rios complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Rios was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Back Muscle. Opposing players hit .216 against Miguel this season. While posting an ERA of 2.66 he went 10-7 in 22 starts, fanning 122 and walking 45 hitters. Miguel has pitched one shutout and one complete game. He's 4th in the Western Conference in ERA and 5th in wins!
 
Tuesday 8/1/2008: Pusi and Gomes receive Pitcher of the Month award
The best month of July in the Eastern Conference certainly had His ERA of just 1.68 helped him to a 4-0 record in July. He worked 48.1 innings, striking out 56 hitters while walking 11. Alec also fired a shutout. This season Pusi compiled an ERA of 2.92, going 10-8 in 23 starts. He fanned 162 while giving up 145 hits in 157 innings. Alec has pitched 3 shutouts and 4 complete games. He's 5th in the Eastern Conference in ERA and 4th in wins! Orange County's Lefty Gomes had a terrific July, and it earned him the Western Conference Pitcher of the month award. The Player of the Week award in the Eastern Conference goes to Saiyanman helped his team with an average of .545 and 8 RBI in 22 at bats. Rich Blundell from Orange County wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Western Conference. He had an on base percentage of .500 and hit .455, while driving in 6 runs. His season features a batting average of .290 (111 hits in 383 AB), 21 doubles, 6 triples and 15 taters. The Player of the Week award in the Eastern Conference goes to Eastview's Paul Hurowitz this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Hurowitz helped his team with an average of .533 and 2 RBI in 30 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Longmont's leftfielder Joe Cavanaugh had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Western Conference Player of the Week. Joe was on fire, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 11 RBI. Wednesday 7/19/2008: Olivia Benson (LSW) will miss 5 weeks
LONGMONT - When it rains, it pours. Longmont's right-hander Olivia Benson will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against New York where he left the field in the 2nd inning. Herniated Disc Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .238 against Olivia this season. While posting an ERA of 3.90 he went 4-11 in 19 starts, fanning 73 and walking 53 hitters.
 
Monday 7/17/2008: Hoffman (GAK) and Risso (OC) win P.O.W. award
Phillip Hoffman from Georgia wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the Eastern Conference. Phillip was on fire, hitting .353 with 0 HR and one RBI. Orange County's pitcher Anthony Risso had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the Western Conference Player of the Week. Risso was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.76. Along the way he struck out 5 in 15.1 innings. Anthony has a record of 11-2 this season, with an ERA of 2.28. The Eastern Conference's best player of the week was Eastview's Audrey Johnson, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.13 while going 2-0. Opposing players hit .198 against Audrey this season. While posting an ERA of 3.58 he went 6-7 in 18 starts, fanning 110 and walking 45 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout. Mike Molholt wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. Western Conference pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He hit .545 with 8 RBI and slugged 1.182 in 22 at bats. Saturday 7/8/2008: Longmont's Mike Molholt slams five hits
NEW ORLEANS - Mike Molholt punished New Orleans' pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped Longmont, they won the game 8 to 6. In the 1st inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Chris Jericho. His 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Chris Jericho in the 4th inning, landed an estimated 338 feet from home plate. A pitch from Chris Keller in the 5th inning left his bat for a two-run double. Number 4 in the 7th inning accounted for a double. He collected a single in the 9th. Mike did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .256.
 
Monday 7/3/2008: Player of the Week honors go to Blundell and Molholt

Thursday 6/29/2008: Christopher Daniels pitches his 1st shutout of the season
SEATTLE - Christopher Daniels had an unexpectedly great performance against New Orleans on Thursday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Daniels (7-7) fanned 8 and walked 4, throwing 112 pitches. Timothy McGee provided Seattle with the offense Daniels needed as he stroked 2 hits in 3 AB. The final score of the game was 1-0.

It's the 1st time that the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award goes to Boston's leftfielder Vladimir Boomchenko. Vladimir went 7 for 18 (.389), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 5 RBI. Brad Blundell of Seattle wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating Western Conference's hitters the entire week. Brad went 2-0 with an ERA of 2.16, while fanning 13 in 16.2 innings of work. A complete game added to his brilliant performance.
 
Thursday 6/1/2008: Elessedil and Baliboa receive Pitcher of the Month award
Kaell Elessedil couldn't have pitched much better than he did in May, and the Eastern Conference thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. His record of 2-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 45.2 innings of work he allowed just 31 hits while striking out 42, compiling an ERA of just 1.38. This season Elessedil compiled an ERA of 2.80, going 4-3 in 11 starts. He fanned 62 while giving up 62 hits in 74 innings. The best month of May in the Eastern Conference certainly had Georgia's southpaw Rico Baliboa, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His ERA of just 0.98 helped him to a 5-1 record in May. He worked 46 innings, striking out 44 hitters while walking 17. Rico also fired a shutout. This season Baliboa compiled an ERA of 1.51, going 7-2 in 11 starts. Jax (3-5) struck out 5 and issued 3 BB, throwing 59 of 103 pitches for strikes. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Seattle's rightfielder Timothy McGee finished 3 for 5, homering once, scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Jax. The final score of the game was 10-0.

In 36.2 innings of work he allowed just 40 hits while striking out 30, compiling an ERA of just 1.96.
 
Monday 5/1/2008: Alexander (BHL) and Cobb (BHL) win monthly award
The Eastern Conference's best player of the month was Boston's Joshua Alexander, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 99 at bats he hit .354 with 4 HR and 18 RBI. It's the 1st time that the Eastern Conference Batter of the Month award goes to Boston's leftfielder Tex Cobb. Tex pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .344 with 1 and 12 RBI while slugging .500.
 
Monday 5/1/2008: Taylor (NYT) and Gibbs (LSW) win P.O.W. award
New York's third baseman Tim Taylor had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Taylor helped his team with an average of .406 and 8 RBI in 32 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 9 games. The Player of the Week award in the Western Conference goes to Longmont's Jethro Gibbs this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. Gibbs was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.26. Along the way he struck out 6 in 14.1 innings.
 
Thursday 4/27/2008: New Orleans' Justin McKenna ropes six hits
BOSTON - Justin McKenna saw the ball really well, leading New Orleans to a 16-1 win over Boston. His six hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Justin seemed happy as well after the game. A RBI double off Alex Martin in the 1st inning accounted for his 1st hit. In the 9th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Steve McKelvey. He collected singles in the 3rd inning , in the 6th , in the 6th (one RBI) and in the 8th inning . Justin did drive in 4 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .333.
 
Tuesday 4/25/2008: Roger Clemens blanks Seattle with a 1-hitter
SEATTLE - Roger Clemens had an unexpectedly great performance against Seattle on Tuesday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Clemens (2-2) fanned 5 and walked 1, throwing 99 pitches. Eastview's first baseman Heather Cavanaugh went 2 for 4. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Clemens. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Monday 4/24/2008: Player of the Week honors go to Rabb Jr. and Goodman
The Eastern Conference's best player of the week was Eastview's Harmon Rabb Jr., who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Harmon was on fire, hitting .500 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Cory Goodman wins his 1st Player of the Week award. Western Conference pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Cory pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .440 with 0 HR and 6 RBI while slugging .600. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now. Goodman has walked 10 times this year and posts a .443 OBP. While batting .350, 21 for 60, he has driven in 14 runs. He's 3rd in the Western Conference in batting and 1st in RBI!
 
Monday 4/17/2008: Player of the Week honors go to Mangles and Geiger
The Player of the Week award in the Eastern Conference goes to New York's Jonathan Jonathan He has hit 2 longballs while batting .364 this season. His 16 hits and 2 walks add up to a .391 on-base percentage. He's 3rd in the Eastern Conference in batting, 1st in homeruns and 4th in RBI! The Western Conference Player of the Week award goes to Dan Geiger, Orange County's starting second baseman. He had an on base percentage of .600 and hit .545, while driving in 6 runs. While compiling an on base percentage of .405, Dan hit .342 and slugged .500. He has collected 8 runs batted in this year. He's 4th in the Western Conference in batting and 3rd in RBI!
 
Monday 4/10/2008: Boston's Alexander wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the Eastern Conference goes to Boston's Joshua Alexander this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Joshua pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .474 with 2 HR and 6 RBI while slugging .842. The Western Conference Player of the Week award goes to Justin Justin
 
Saturday 4/8/2008: Audrey Johnson fires NO-NO against New York
NEW YORK - Audrey Johnson made some history on Saturday by pitching a no-hitter in his first big-league start. Eastview's right-hander baffled New York all day witch his great stuff. What a way to begin a career! 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches. I'm so happy that it was enough to pitch such a great game.' Johnson (1-0) struck out 6 and issued 4 BB, throwing 63 of 104 pitches for strikes. Joe Cavanaugh helped Johnson at the plate, he finished with 2 hits in 5 AB, doubling once, scoring 2 runs. The final score of the game was 5-0.
